An Ultra-Colorful Brooklyn Wedding at 501 Union
Roses are red, violets are blue. On June 15, 2018, Hannah and Michael said “I do.” This wow-worthy wedding at Brooklyn’s 501 Union had a vibe centered around color (it’s no wonder why I absolutely adore these two!), and the vibrant palette matched the happy couple’s personalities.
The day started with Hannah and her bridesmaids having hair and makeup done at an Airbnb nearby, while Michael and his groomsmen got ready at Nu Hotel, opting for lunch and drinks before heading to the venue.
Following the first look, where Michael got his first peek at Hannah’s show-stopping pink floral gown by Monique Lhuillier, the couple met up with their wedding party for some group photos. They took advantage of the stunning New York skyline and various brick backdrops for picture-perfect photo ops. The bridesmaids donned stunning mixed-style dresses in a range of cool hues, from kelly green and deep teal to orchid purple for the maid of honor. Each tone was thoughtfully chosen to play off the Lhuillier gown. Michael sported a dapper suit from Bonobos, and the groomsmen wore warm-toned boutonnieres, which created a subtle ROYGBIV effect with the bridesmaids’ dresses.
Following photos and framed by a simple, chic archway blooming with flowers, Hannah and Michael said their vows and began their happily-ever-after surrounded by about 150 of their close family and friends. The ceremony was tailored perfectly these two and their original vows demonstrated why these two are a perfect match, including multiple references to Hannah’s enthusiastic use of emojis and exclamation points.
The reception portion of the evening consisted of dinner, drinks, dancing, and dessert – and special nods to the couple were sprinkled throughout. Hannah (a detail-oriented lawyer after my own heart) saw the special details all the way through. One of my favorite touches was the tablescapes, specifically the napkins. Hannah picked eight tonal shades of blue to achieve the ombre look she wanted – and she nailed it! The cool blues were a perfect complement to the warmer reds, pinks and oranges in the centerpieces.
In addition, the place cards at each setting featured watercolor calligraphy for a handmade touch.
To show their love for Theo and Emerson, the couple’s two rescue dogs, Hannah and Michael used whimsical pup escort card holders. And for sweet treats, a Coolhaus truck pulled into the garden and served up their famous ice cream cookie sandwiches.
On the dance floor, a disco ball overheard reflected rainbow prisms of light across the room. The florist designed a special installation that surrounded the disco ball with floral garlands for a “flower crown–like” effect.
It’s hard to capture in words just how bright, expressive and exuberant Hannah is, but her dedication to and love of emojis helps to sum it up, which Michael’s groomsmen made sure to reiterate during their toast.
One of my favorite stories about Hannah and Michael, and a perfect example of how contagious Hannah’s spirit is, is that Michael never used exclamation points before he met Hannah. I’m happy to report that he’s now an occasional, conservative user of them, but a user nonetheless!
To wrap up Hannah and Michael’s wedding, all I can say is that their colorful, playful personalities shone through the ceremony, reception, and heartfelt toasts. One might say things got a little … emoji-tional.
